Kings Mountain Diorama Project
Last September, the Nolichucky contingent of the Overmountain Victory Trail Asssociation visited the schools that lay on the route the children's forebears would have taken to the historic gathering at Sycamore Shoals prior to the Overmountain Men's trek over the mountains to the confrontation with the loyalist force commanded by Major Patrick Furguson. The intension was to give students a glimps into their past and emphasize the role their ancestors had in shaping their country's future. At the time it was decided that a diorama of the Battle of Kings Mountain, the scene of the Overmountain Men's victory over their loyalist counterparts, would be advantageous in the telling of the story.
During the actual battle anniversary week the group, when they were not talking to parties of children, they surveyed the battlefield and took many photographs to aid the construction of the model. Initially the actual progress building of the model was slow as a lot of planning and research had to be done. Once work on the diorama had started, things moved more quickly. The following pictures will give an idea of the progress to date.
The Battlefield will eventually be populated by hundreds of hand painted figures just over 15mm high. We are hoping that the figures will be provided by a renowned international wargame figure manufacturer. I will let keep you informed as to the progress of negotiations.

Artie draws projected contours onto successive sheets of plastic foam. Diana was very brave to allow her classroom to be invaded for this purpose.
Thank you Diana
